Pleasantview - Series 1 - Episode 04 - Your Problem is my Problem

Welcome to the Pleasants household. About a year ago Daniel Pleasant was caught cheating on his wife, and the next day he moved in with his girlfriend, Kaylynn Langerak. Later today his and Mary-Sues 18 year old daughters, Angela and Lilith will be starting university.

Mary Sue: Thanks for offering to take them. They really didn't want to take the bus. There so obsessed with their image.
Daniel:
It's no problem. I wanted to say goodbye anyway.
Mary Sue:
Is Kaylynn going with you?
Daniel:
No, she had to work today. There's not much room in the car with all the girls stuff either... you can still come with us though if you want to.
Mary Sue:
No, I better not. It's going to be emotional saying goodbye from here. If I drag it out all the way there it's going to be even worse.
Daniel:
Your going to be fine!
Mary Sue:
It's going to be lonely.
Daniel:
(Laughs) Well from what the girls have been saying during their visits you've had a lot of guests recently.
Mary Sue:
Yeah, Bella's being stay here a week now. I wish her and Cassandra would make up. Cassandra's too obsessed with getting Don out of prison to even think about her own family.

Lilith: Have you said goodbye to Dustin?
Angela:
Yeah. Last night around his house.
Lilith:
What did his mum have to say about that?
Angela:
She's too afraid to argue with him.
Lilith:
I don't know why you like him. He's so horrible to everyone, including you sometimes.
Angela:
He's obviously got an emotional past.
Lilith:
Oh great, and now that your going to study psychology you think you can help him?
Angela:
Well, maybe.
Lilith:
I wouldn't even bother. He'd dump you instantly. Sis, he just wants you for the sex. That's what he's like. You know that, right?
Angela:
He loves me.
Lilith:
That boy doesn't even love his own family! He's a disgrace. I've told you before, and I'll tell you again... he's not worth your effort. I'll gamble every penny I have, that by the time we break up for Christmas he'll be with someone else.
Angela:
You know I respect your opinions, but this time I really hope your wrong.

Mary Sue: I don't know what there doing up there. I told them to make sure they were ready last week.
Daniel:
It's ok, no rush. I need to talk to you about something anyway.
Mary Sue:
What is it?
Daniel:
Me and Kaylynn are thinking about getting married.
Mary Sue:
What!? But were married!
Daniel:
I know, that's why I'm telling you. I've got my solicitor to arrange the papers and they should arrive in our mail boxes tomorrow.
Mary Sue:
Papers? ... You want a divorce?
Daniel:
Yes. Don't you?
Mary Sue:
Well, I don't know. Maybe it's a bit too early.
Daniel:
We've been separated for over a year!
Mary Sue:
I know. I guess your right.
Daniel:
Kaylynn want's to get married on new years eve, as soon as the clock strikes midnight.
Mary Sue:
How romantic (!).
Daniel:
I know, I wish I had the idea! All I could think of was getting married underwater. Anyway, we only had the idea a few days ago, and it's only a few weeks until new year, so we need to get a move on. Get the papers signed as soon as possible.
Mary Sue:
Right.
Daniel:
Thanks.

Lilith: Oh, hi dad, didn't realise you were here yet.
Daniel:
Morning girls. Is everything ready?
Angela:
Yeah. I hope you've got enough room in the car.
Daniel:
I'm sure we'll squeeze everything in. I'll go and start loading it in, while you say goodbye to your mother.
Lilith:
Try not to cry too much mum.

Mary Sue: I'm going to miss you both so much. Remember i'm only a phone call away. Be careful and don't get involved in anything stupid.
Lilith:
Don't worry mum, were going to be fine.
Mary Sue:
And you two look after each other! No fighting.
Angela:
We will. You look after yourself too mum.
Mary Sue:
Oh, don't worry about me. I'm going to be fine!
Daniel:
Come on now girls, we want to avoid the traffic.
Lilith:
Bye mum.
Angela:
Miss you.
Mary Sue:
Bye, I'll miss you both so much!

Bella: Oh Mary, don't cry. They'll be back in a few weeks for Christmas.
Mary Sue:
I know, it's just I'm going to be so alone.
Bella:
You'll still have your friends.
Mary Sue:
Daniel want's a divorce!
Bella:
Isn't that good news?
Mary Sue:
I guess I always hoped we'd get back together.
Bella:
You've been separated for a year!
Mary Sue:
I know, but I just don't want this family to fall apart. I still love him. It doesn't matter what he did to me.
Bella:
What did he do to you anyway?

Kaylynn: What about your wife?
Daniel:
She won't be back for hours!
Kaylynn:
Excellent.

Mary Sue: Daniel? I've been let home early. Are you in? Daniel?

Daniel: I'll go out and distract her so you can escape.
Kaylynn:
What about my clothes?
Daniel:
I don't know, just hurry!

Mary Sue: What is going on!?
Daniel:
Mary... I can explain!
Mary Sue:
I can't believe you Daniel! How could you do this to me?
Daniel:
Mary, I'm sorry.

Mary: You disgust me!
Daniel:
Please Mary, I'm sorry.
Kaylynn:
I..
Mary Sue:
I think you better go and don't bother coming to work tomorrow!
Daniel:
You can't sack her.
Mary Sue:
Oh yes I can!

Bella: You caught him with the maid!? You chucked him out for that, right?
Mary Sue: No.
Bella: Why not?
Mary Sue: Bella, I still loved him after that, and I still do now.
Bella: So what did you do?
Mary Sue: I told him he was forgiven, but that's wasn't what he wanted to hear.

Mary Sue: I forgive you.
Daniel:
What!? Just like that?
Mary Sue:
Yes. I've been busy at work and it's understandable that you needed some attention.
Daniel:
I cheated on you!
Mary Sue:
It's ok.
Daniel:
It's been going on for moths behind your back, and in our bed!
Mary Sue:
Its fine. Lets just forget about it and move on.
Daniel:
Are you really that scared of us splitting up? Please Mary, I've done a bad thing. You shouldn't just forgive and forget.
Mary Sue:
Well I have.
Daniel:
Mary, I've wanted us to end for ages. I'm in love with Kaylynn.
Mary Sue:
Don't say that! Your in love with me!
Daniel:
I haven't loved you for a long time.
Mary Sue:
We can work things out.
Daniel:
Love can't just be restarted. It's like a firework. It starts with a bang, but eventually it fizzles out. Were over.
Mary Sue:
You can't do this to me!
Daniel:
I'm going to move out as soon as possible. Kaylynn's house has got plenty of space.
Mary Sue: No, don't do this!
Daniel: I'm sorry, but this was going to happen sooner or later, and I'm glad that it finally has.

Bella: I can't believe you forgave him.
Mary Sue:
I love him. I need more time to work things out with him.
Bella:
What are you going to do?
Mary Sue:
I don't know how I'll get him back, but I do know that I'm not going to sign them papers!

Dina: I really can't cope anymore Nina. It's just taken me three hours to get him to sleep! I can't do this alone. I need Don back.

Nina: Dina, just relax! Everything is going to be fine. He'll be out in a couple of weeks, or sooner if Cassandra's solicitor works his magic... What, she didn't tell you? ... She's been trying to get him out for a week now. No, I don't know why.. Dina, I'm sure there's nothing going on between them! She just wants to help... Just try and get a bit of rest while Jack's asleep, it sounds like you need it... Yeah, love you too. Bye.

Cassandra: Have you managed to find anything?
Solicitor:
I've looked through a few old newspapers and found two similar cases. However in both the police officer had admitted to the victim that he was in on it.
Cassandra:
I wish you'd stop calling Don the victim.
Solicitor:
I'm sorry, but Don is the victim. He was raped and that fact isn't going to leave him for the rest of his life. How is he bearing up anyway?
Cassandra:
Fairly well considering what he's been through. He's really scared of Rex, but he's managed to survive every shower since it happened. He's hiding the fact though, and wont even tell his best mate in there.
Solicitor:
I honestly don't see what we can do now. I can't contact the prison because the warden may be involved. I ran a few checks though, and it looks like Don will be released two days before Christmas. I think the best thing for him to do is stay well clear of Rex and the warden until then.
Cassandra:
We can't give up. Can't we say that his punishment was too long and appeal?

Solicitor: Yes, we could, but by the time it goes through Don will be pretty much free to go.
Cassandra:
So were giving up?
Solicitor:
Cassandra, I know a bad thing happened to Don, and when he's out I will do my very best to get the person responsible punished. However, the fact remains that he's in there to serve a prison sentence and I'm afraid that there is nothing I can do to change that.
Cassandra:
Oh, well... Thanks for your help anyway. I'm off to visit Don now. I hope he doesn't take it too badly.
Solicitor: I recommend that he talks to someone else about it. His friend, or an officer he can trust.
Cassandra: He's just so ashamed though. He thinks it's his fault.
Solicitor: He has the right to speak to a councillor.
Cassandra: Oh no, he's too proud for that!
Solicitor: If you don't mind me asking, what does his wife have to say about all this?
Cassandra: She doesn't know.
Solicitor: I see.

Don: I was beginning to think you weren't coming.
Cassandra:
I'm sorry. Where is everyone?
Don:
There was a fight this morning so now everyone's getting punished outside.
Cassandra:
You weren't involved were you?
Don:
No. It started out as an argument between Rex and the warden though.
Cassandra:
Really? Well that's great!
Don
It is?
Cassandra:
Well if they've fallen out maybe the warden will admit he was involved to you.
Don:
I doubt it. Anyway, he doesn't need to does he? You've got me out of here right?
Cassandra:
Don, I'm really sorry. There was nothing I could do.
Don:
Oh.
Cassandra:
We need evidence that the warden was involved, or there's nothing we can get him for. Did you hear much of the argument?
Don:
I heard everything. It probably doesn't mean much though.
Cassandra:
Just tell me what happened.

Warden: No Rex.
Rex:
You going to deny me my privileges?
Warden:
It's not yours to have and you know that very well!
Rex:
Your going to go back on your promise?
Warden:
I've put my neck on the line for you enough already. You said it would only happen once!
Rex:
What can I say? I enjoyed it.
Warden:
You make me sick!

Rex: Your making a big mistake!
Warden:
Rex, you don't scare me.
Rex:
Oh yeah!? Is that so?

Don: Then the officers came running and the prisoners took advantage of the situation to start a riot.
Cassandra:
Yeah, but Rex said that the warden was denying him his privileges.
Don:
They could have been talking about anything.
Cassandra
: I know, but the fact is that something dodgy is going on between them, and that defiantly shouldn't happen between an inmate and warden whatever it is.
Don:
I guess.
Cassandra:
Did anyone else hear the argument who would be willing to give evidence?
Don:
Yeah, Eric, but I don't see how I can ask him without telling him what happened.
Cassandra:
Well, I think it's about time you told him then.
Don:
Oh, I don't know about that.
Cassandra:
He's your friend, right?
Don:
Well, the closest thing to a friend you can have in here.
Cassandra:
Tell him then! He'll want to help. I better go and let you get back to your punishment. Phone me tonight, and make sure you've got him to agree by then.
Don:
Right, I'll try.
Cassandra:
Don't try, just do it!

Warden: I've been hoping to see you again.
Cassandra:
What?
Warden:
I need to speak to you about what you said the other day.
Cassandra:
You do?
Warden:
Would you like to come through to the office?
Cassandra:
Well, ok.

Eric: You are joking right!?
Don:
No.
Eric:
Oh man, you should of told me! You didn't have to suffer in silence.
Don:
I didn't want to make my problem, your problem.
Eric:
Oh my god, I wish you'd told me.
Officer:
Oi! No talking!

Cassandra: Lets hear it then.
Warden:
What you said was true.
Cassandra:
I knew it!
Warden:
I kept Don back a bit longer to ensure Rex could...
Cassandra:
Your not too ashamed to say it are you? You let it happen!
Warden:
I was scared!
Cassandra:
Oh, Don't give me that rubbish!
Warden:
He's been making me do this for months.
Cassandra:
I don't see why you had to. No one made you!
Warden:
He said he'd hurt my family.
Cassandra:
And you believed him?
Warden:
He's got friends on the outside. They all did a big bank job together, but Rex was the only one caught. Seven people were killed during the robbery, so yes... I believed him!
Cassandra:
You could of had him transferred.
Warden:
I tried! He somehow knew I was trying and delivered the same threat.

Eric: So I'll just need to tell them about the argument this morning?
Don:
Yeah, that's it. I'd really appreciate it.
Eric:
Well, it's defiantly worth it, if we can get Rex out of here and possibly get the warden sacked that's great!

Officer: I'm sick of telling you two to shut up!
Eric:
Sorry.
Officer:
It's too late for sorrys. Your on kitchen duty tomorrow.
Eric:
Unlucky choice mate, cause I love cooking!

Cassandra: You could of told someone! You could of stopped all this a long time ago.
Warden:
I have told someone.
Cassandra:
When?
Warden:
Well, it was last week actually. Just after our argument.
Cassandra:
Then why has nothing happened?
Warden:
It almost has. Rex is going to get transferred to a high security prison this afternoon.
Cassandra:
That's fantastic, but what about your family?
Warden:
They'll be kept safe while he's transferred and we'll see how things go for a few weeks. Hopefully he'll never be able to tell his friends to get revenge. Where he's going he'll have no contact with the outside. It's taken a long time, but Rex will finally get the punishment he deserves.
Cassandra:
Thank you so much. I see no reason in dragging this story to the courts. Don may want something done when he gets out, but I reckon he'll want to forget about his whole time in here.
Warden:
He most probably will.
Cassandra:
I better be off. Will you tell Don the good news?
Warden:
Yes.
Cassandra:
Thank you. Goodbye.
Warden:
Bye.
