Pleasantview - Series 2 - Episode 13 - A Fresh Start

Don: It's so great to have a day off for once.
Dina:
It defiantly is. You can help me with the potty training. He peed all over me last night when you were at work.
Don:
Did you really have to tell me that? I was about to have breakfast.
Dina:
Don, who's that at our front door?
Don:
Where?
Dina:
Come and look.

Don: Oh my god, it's Eric!
Dina:
Who!?
Don:
He's a guy I met in prison.
Dina:
Not the one who..?
Don:
No! Of course not.
Dina:
What did he do?
Don:
He beat up his wife.
Dina:
Oh my god. That's sick.

Don: I wonder what he wants?
Dina:
Nothing I hope. I don't want criminals associated with our family.
Don:
I can't just ignore him.
Dina:
He thinks were out. He'll go away in a minute.
Don:
I'm sorry. I've got to go and see him. He was a good friend to me inside.
Dina:
Ok, just don't bring him near us!
Don:
I won't. He probably just wants to say hello anyway. I'll be back in a few minutes.

Darren: Anything?
Peter:
Just cleaners and shop assistants.
Darren:
Now's not the time to be picky Peter.
Peter:
I know, but I can do so much more than that. I need a job in a managerial position.
Darren:
Well get a job as a shop assistant then. If you work hard you could be a manager in a few weeks.
Peter:
I suppose.
Darren:
How do you think Sam will be getting on with his first day at school?
Peter:
He'll be fine. Dirk will look after him when he can. It's a shame there not in the same year.
Darren:
Yeah, they both need good friends really. I can't believe they both turned out so shy.
Peter:
Maybe lack of confidence is down to genes. There genes must be pretty similar with brothers for their dads and the same mum.
Darren:
True.

Eric: Don!
Don:
Eric! What are you doing here?
Eric:
Looking for you! You said I could look you up when I got out.
Don:
Oh yeah. How long have you been out?
Eric:
I got out last night.
Don:
Well it's great to see you. Were living next door at the moment.
Eric:
How come?
Don:
Were having a bit of building work done to extend the house, for Jack.
Eric:
Oh your little boy. How is he, and your wife?
Don:
There both great. Were all getting under Dina's sisters feet though. That's who were staying with.
Eric:
I don't suppose there's room for one more? I hate to ask, but I just need a place to stay while I find my own place. It's going to take a lot of looking to find somewhere to live with the money the prison gave me.
Don:
I'd love to help, but the house is already really crowded.
Eric:
Oh, ok. No worries.
Don:
I could give you some clothes though.
Eric:
Really!? That would be great. I'm too embarrassed to even go in clothes shops wearing this!
Don:
(Laughs). Ok, lets go and get some then. There all next door.

Jason: Oh great! Not only are you in my tutor group, I've also got to put up with you in IT! Why did you have to end up in my year!?
Sam:
Believe me, I wish I wasn't too.
Jason:
Didn't I warn you about dressing like that!?
Sam:
Yes, but I told you bullies didn't scare me.
Jason:
You wont be saying that at lunch time. Look, there's some really nasty people at this school. If I was you, I'd go home now and change.
Sam:
I can't leave school now! They'll think I'm skiving. And what would my dad say if I just barged in at home?
Jason:
Fine, don't take my advice, just find a good hiding place at lunch time!

Dirk: Sam!? Where you going?
Sam:
Come with me!

Nina: Don, Jacks toys are really starting to annoy me! Oh... hello.
Eric:
Hi.
Don:
Sorry Nina. I know you told me not to bring anyone else round, but I won't be long. I just want to give Eric some clothes. He's just got out of prison.
Nina:
Oh, don't worry about it. It's fine.
Don:
What!? But you always have a go..
Nina:
I said it's fine!
Don:
Ok... well, thanks. We'll be quick.
Nina:
There's no rush.

Dirk: So, why are we hiding behind a wall?
Sam:
I'm going to get my face kicked in Dirk. Jason said..
Dirk:
Oh, I should of known!
Sam:
Please, I can't go to school looking like this.
Dirk:
But we've already had registration.
Sam:
I know.
Dirk:
We can't sit here all day. What about food?
Sam:
You can sneak back in and get our lunch from our lockers.
Dirk:
But what if the school realise were missing?
Sam:
Please Dirk, do it for me.
Dirk:
(Sighs) Just this once. Tomorrow we better find you some more clothes.
Sam:
Thanks Dirk.
Dirk:
It's ok I suppose.

Daniel: Kaylynn? Kaylynn!? Where the hell's Kaylynn!?

Daniel: Where is she!? What have you done with her?
Doctor:
Daniel, calm down! Kaylynn's fine!
Daniel:
Where is she!?
Doctor:
We've just moved her to a side room.
Daniel:
Why didn't you tell me?
Doctor:
I would of if you'd given me a chance!
Daniel
Why have you moved her?
Doctor:
We just feel it's more comfortable for her.
Daniel:
Oh, I see. Settling her in for a long stay?
Doctor:
I'm sorry Daniel, but there hasn't been any signs of life from her. It could be sometime before she wakes up... if she ever wakes up.
Daniel:
(Sighs) I'm sorry. It was just the shock of seeing her gone. I feared for the worse.
Doctor:
I understand. Come on, I'll show you where she is.
Daniel:
Thanks.

Don: I know it's a bit old fashioned though.
Eric:
I'll take it. Anything is better than these clothes.
Nina:
So, Eric, how did you get in prison?
Don:
Nina, will you please stop questioning him?
Nina:
What's your height?
Eric:
(Laughs). Six foot.
Nina:
Nice!
Don:
So do you want to change into something now?
Eric:
Please.
Don:
Ok, we'll leave the room.
Nina:
What, me? I can just close my eyes!
Don:
What is a matter with you? Have you been on the happy pills?
Nina:
No.
Don:
Just leave the room Nina.
Nina:
(Sighs) Ok.
Don:
We'll wait downstairs.

Daniel: It's defiantly a lot cosier.
Doctor:
Yeah. I thought it would be good for you too, because you've been spending so much time here.
Daniel:
There's a TV too.
Doctor:
(Laughs) Yeah.
Daniel:
Thanks very much. I really appreciate it. Sorry again for pushing you.
Doctor:
Honestly, it's fine. I'll leave you two alone.

Nina: So was Eric's crime major?
Don:
He got two years for beating his wife.
Nina:
A wife beater!? Well that's put me off him.. although he is good looking.
Don:
You fancy him?
Nina:
Oh good, I wasn't obvious then? I like a dangerous man. I was hoping he was some sort of gangster though.
Don:
(Laughs). He thought his wife was cheating on him, so he beat her up.
Nina:
Sensitive? I like that too. Has he got anywhere to stay yet?
Don:
Not yet. He asked if he could stay here, but I said no.
Nina:
Why? He can have the sofa.
Don:
Really!?
Nina:
Yeah, why not? Lets really pack this house out!
Don:
Thanks a lot Nina. I really appreciate it. He's a good friend.
Nina:
No problem.
Don:
Where's Dina by the way?
Nina:
On the roof I think.
(Screams from above)
Don:
Oh my god. Dina!

Dina: Get away from me!
Eric:
Please, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm a friend of Don's.
Dina:
I know who you are! Get out now!
Eric:
You must be Dina. Look, Don said he'd give me some clothes.
Dina:
Out!

Don: Dina, relax! I'm just giving him some clothes.
Nina:
Although, we've also decided to let you stay here... just until you get sorted.
Eric:
Oh wow, I..
Dina:
You better undecide! This house is already packed.
Nina:
It's my house, and your always going on about doing things for people less fortunate than us. This is our chance.
Dina:
It's his own fault he's got no where to live! He shouldn't of beat up his wife!
Eric:
Oh! I forgot all about that.
Don:
What?
Eric:
I'm not a wife beater. I was a con artist! The wife beating was a con that went wrong.
Don:
What?
Eric:
It was years ago now, and I was really going for a big haul that would set me up for life...

Eric: I'd found this huge house.. right here in Pleasantview, worth more than a one and a half million big ones and I knew that a woman lived alone there. I knew it would take time, but my plan was to get hitched to her, and convince her to sign the house over to me, which I'd quickly sell. I'd then disappear before the cops came sniffing around.

Eric: This task was harder than I thought. My cheeky flirtatious charm failed me for the first time ever. My target was called Rose by the way.

Rose: My eyes are so deep you could drown in them? Is that supposed to be flattery sir?
Eric:
Did I mention I can't resist a girl with red hair?
Rose:
Yes, several times. Now then, what exactly can I do for you?
Eric:
Can I take you out for a drink?
Rose:
No. I'm afraid not. I have a lot to do.
Eric:
Please?
Rose:
No, sorry.

Eric: It took seven months of trying, but we finally did get married. I spent almost another month convincing her I loved her, and that I wanted to be with her forever. That wasn't as bad as bad for me as it could of been, she was great in the sack!

Eric: What I didn't know then was that while I was romancing, I was also being followed by two thugs sent by a guy I'd conned out of 100K.

Eric: Anyway, on the day I went to pick up the forms to sign the house over to me, I came home and found them inside with Rose. They said I'd conned the wrong guy, and if I didn't give the money back, they'd hurt Rose until I did. The problem was I didn't have any money to give them. I'd been living off Rose for months.

Eric: Luckily for Rose, she had nosy neighbours who called the police. I think the woman was called Mary-Sue pleasant. The thugs scarpered, and I told the police I'd hit her and made up a story about her cheating on me. I haven't got a clue why, maybe she hit her head or maybe she was just really scared, but Rose went along with that story. If they'd found out the truth, they'd investigate everything I'd done, and I'd probably of been sent down for life.

Don: Why didn't you tell the guys in prison that? Surely it's better than being a wife beater?
Eric:
I wasn't proud of what happened. I just wanted to take her money, not get her hurt.
Dina:
I'd say taking her money and her house would hurt her!
Eric:
I can see that now. I'm not like that any more. Prison has changed me. I'm a good man. Surely Don can tell you that.
Don:
He is a good man.
Dina:
I guess I should of let you explain.
Eric:
Its fine. I understand about you not wanting me to live here. I'll just get dressed and go.
Dina:
No, no. Your Don's friend, and a friend of his is a friend of mine.
Eric:
I can see why Don likes you. Your a good woman.
Dina:
Thank you.
Nina:
It'll have to be the sofa though mate.
Eric:
That's fine with me. I'm sure it'll be more comfy than those prison beds!

Sam: Do you think were too early?
Dirk:
No. School finishes at quarter past three, and it takes about five minutes to get home. Were right on time.
Sam:
Let's hope the school haven't noticed.
Dirk:
I'm sure they wouldn't have picked up on it already.

Darren: Right, where have been all day?
Dirk:
School.
Darren:
Don't lie Dirk. I've just had the school on the phone. You both disappeared after registration.
Peter:
Sam?
Sam:
Dad, I'm sorry.. it's just..
Peter:
I don't want excuses Samuel! You've never done anything like this before and I'm outraged!
Darren:
I'm angry too Dirk. You've never missed a day of school in your life, except for that week when you had chicken pox when you were six.
Peter:
Sam, go to your room and read some of Dirks school books to make up for the day you've missed.
Darren:
Yeah, you do that too Dirk. I want you to do it in silence. No talking. And I'll tell you something else, they'll be no computer or television for either of you for a week!
Dirk:
But Dad, it's not my fault.
Darren:
Just go to your room Dirk. I don't want to see you again until dinner.

Dirk: It's all your fault.
Darren:
(Shouting) I said in silence!
Dirk:
(Whispers) My dad's mad at me now.
Sam:
He'll get over it.
Dirk:
You've stolen my room and now your getting me into trouble. Why did you ever have to come here!?
Darren:
I can hear that whispering, and if you don't shut up and do some work I'll ban you from the TV and computer for a month!

Nina: I hope you don't mind me watching TV. If you want to go to sleep I'll go.
Eric:
It's fine. I'm not tired yet.
Nina:
Me neither. Those two go to bed so early!
Eric:
Yeah. I guess there tired out looking after Jack. He's very energetic.
Nina:
(Laughs) Energetic is just a nice way of saying a pain in the arse.
Eric:
(Laughs).
Nina:
So what are you going to do tomorrow, on your second day of freedom?
Eric:
Oh, I don't know really.
Nina:
May I suggest you go clothes shopping? Don's old clothes really don't suit you!
Eric:
(Laughs) It's better than nothing.
Nina:
I wouldn't say so.
Eric:
(Smirks) Can you show me around the shops tomorrow then? A lot seems to have changed around here in two years.
Nina:
Sure.
Eric:
Thanks.

Nina: Was it true about your liking for red hair?
Eric:
Absolutely.
Nina:
So you can't resist me then!?
Eric:
(Laughs) Your so upfront! Anyone would think it was you who'd gone without sex for two years!
Nina:
I forgot about that. You know, my bed is so much more comfortable than this sofa, and there's plenty of space for two of us.
Eric:
Nina, slow down! Look, your a nice girl, but before I can even think about another woman, there's something I need to do.
Nina:
What?
Eric:
I've not heard from Rose ever since I got sentenced. Technically, me and Rose are still married. We never got divorced.
Nina:
Oh my god!
Eric:
I just want to explain about those guys, and get a divorce sorted. I just hope she still lives at that house.
Nina:
I don't know. I've never really been near the place. I can't stand rich snobs.
Eric:
Well, we can drop by after clothes shopping and find out.
Nina:
Ok.

Daniel: Kaylynn, you know I'm sorry for what happened don't you? I love you, and I miss you so much. Please, I want you back. I want to hold you and feel our baby. Please darling, please wake up.

Daniel: Oh my god, can you hear me? Kaylynn, it's me! Quick, her mouth opened!

Doctor: Kaylynn, can you hear us? Your in Pleasantview infirmary. If you can hear us give us a sign. Blink you eye lids, or move your mouth.
Daniel:
Wake up love. I'm here waiting for you.

Daniel: She did it again!
Doctor:
It's good progress.
Daniel:
Can't she just wake up now? If she can hear us then...
Doctor:
She might not be able to hear us. These might just be involuntary mouth movements.
Daniel:
But I thought she was going to wake up.
Doctor:
Only time will tell. I really hope this is good news for us all. I suggest you go and get some sleep now. You've been here all day, and if Kaylynn does wake up soon she's going to want you to be your best.
Daniel:
Right, well call me straight away if anything happens.
Doctor:
Of course.
