Pleasantview - Series 4 - Episode 35 - Learn From Your Mistakes

Peter: Darren! No, no, no... no, just leave me. Save yourself.

Peter: Darrrrrrrrrrrrrrren! No! No. No! Darren!

Darleen: It's ok, it's just a dream! It's only a dream.
Peter:
I... it was so real, I could feel the heat from the fire. I could hear peoples screams.
Darleen:
Oh Peter, I really do think you should speak to some..
Peter:
No!
Darleen:
(Sighs) You're soaking wet. We better get you changed.
Peter:
I'm sorry Darleen, I'm sorry for being such a burden.
Darleen:
You're not a burden.
Peter:
I'm nearly forty Darleen, and I've just wet myself! You can't blame me for feeling like this.
Darleen:
I know it's hard Peter, especially when it's nearly been a year. You must be thinking about the accident a lot.
Peter:
I'm trying my best not to. It just keeps coming back into my head.

Dirk: What time is it?
Sam:
Just after four. Dad woke me up again.
Dirk:
Me too. He's dreaming about the crash more and more.
Sam:
Well, it's the anniversary in a few days.
Dirk:
Yeah, almost one year since my dad died.
Sam:
Hmm.
Dirk:
It's not been the same without him.
Sam:
I know. Things have changed so much. I just wish my dad would get better, it would make things a little bit more normal at least.
Dirk:
Yeah, mum said he could still walk again, one day.
Sam:
One day, it's not soon enough. I feel so sorry for him, and there's nothing I can do to help. He pity's himself.
Dirk: I know. Perhaps my mum should of let him see his ex.
Sam: You know, my dads not had a girl friend since I was born. She was his last one.
Dirk: Really? I think we should ask mum to let him see her. Maybe it will help.
Sam: Yeah, it's worth a try. He needs cheering up.

Maria: Liam! Wake up.
Liam:
What? What is it?
Maria: I heard a noise.
Liam:
Again? I've told you, he's not going to find us... he didn't find us at my mums, and there's no way he's going to find us here.
Maria: He might.
Liam:
Our name isn't linked to this address. He cant locate us. Just get back in bed and go to sleep.
Maria: If you've got as much money as he does you can do anything.

Five months ago...

Kel: I'd recognise that arse anywhere.

Maria: Kel?
Kel:
Hello Maria.
Maria:
What are you doing here?
Kel:
It's nice to see you too.
Maria:
You agreed to stay away.
Kel:
Things change. I want to see her.
Maria:
It's been seventeen years! Liam thinks she's his.
Kel:
Oh Liam, you're still with that lump? I see he's really providing for his family! You can do so much better.
Maria:
Like you, you mean?
Kel:
You didn't say no last time.
Maria:
I was young and stupid.
Kel:
It was fun, and you know it. More fun than you'll ever have with Liam.
Maria:
What do you want?
Kel:
I've told you, I want to get to know my daughter. Sarah found out she can't have kids so I thought it would be good to tell her about Katy.
Maria:
You cant see her.
Kel:
Then we'll go to court, she's still a minor so we can get custody. Lets face it, with myself and Sarah being lawyers who's going to win? I'm trying to do this the nice way for you Maria.
Maria:
But what about Liam!?
Kel:
I'll tell you what, I'm a reasonable guy...

Kel: You have a week to tell them both, but then I'm coming back to meet her.
Maria:
Don't do this! It'll break me and Liam.
Kel:
And that's a bad thing?
Maria:
Please!
Kel:
I'll be back in a week.

Liam: Wasn't that the guy you used t' work for?
Maria:
Yeah, Kel.
Liam:
What did 'e want?
Maria:
Oh, he was just passing by. Lets go inside. I need to start on dinner.
Liam:
What are we 'aving love?
Maria:
I've got some pork chops defrosting in the fridge.
Liam:
Yum.
Maria:
It's just the two of us tonight too. Katy's at work and Tommy's at a sleepover.
Liam:
Oh, that's good. There's some good stuff on t' box tonight.
Maria:
Great love.

Luke: Dad? Dad?
Leo:
Oh, hey champ. What are you doing up so early?
Luke:
I'm not tired anymore. Why are you up? Are you ok?
Leo:
Me mate? Yeah, I'm fine. I've just got a lot of work to do. Why don't you go and get ready for school and then you can play on your pc for a while.
Luke:
Dad, I broke up for Christmas a couple of days ago.
Leo:
Oh, oh yeah, you did.
Luke:
Dad, did you go to bed last night?
Leo:
Not yet. Would you mind going to Herbs and Corals today? I need to go into work.
Luke:
But dad, you're supposed to be off.
Leo:
I know, but I just need to get something sorted and then I promise I'll be all yours for Christmas, for longer actually.
Luke:
Oh ok dad.

Mary-Sue: It's already reached the papers this morning, that Sophie got kidnapped.
Andrew:
I know, lets hope that its helps someone remember something.
Mary-Sue:
I hope so. Poor Sophie. Poor Daniel and Kaylynn, they must be going through hell.
Andrew:
I've done my best to get the police force really concentrating on finding her.
Mary-Sue: I
know, thank you Andrew. I'm really sorry about sending you home last night.
Andrew:
That's ok, I just went away and did my own work to help find Sophie. I took advantage of your mayor privileges.
Mary-Sue:
Well I'm glad you thought of it, because I totally forgot. I just walked the streets with Daniel and the girls.

Kaylynn: So she took over a thousand pounds from the safe?
Charlie:
Yes.
Kaylynn:
(Sighs)
Daniel:
So she's not going to use her card. You cant trace her.
Charlie:
Well she's not going to use it for some time at least.
Kaylynn:
Oh my god. Yesterday I was so hopeful, but now there's nothing to be hopeful for!
Charlie:
Pictures of Sophie and Jennifer are still in circulation, and we've published pictures in the paper.
Daniel:
But it's only a local paper.
Charlie:
I'm afraid that at this stage we cant do anything more.
Kaylynn:
We're just supposed to wait?
Daniel: U
ntil what exactly?
Charlie:
Until Jennifer slips up, and uses her name somewhere or uses her credit card.
Daniel:
Oh, so basically after she spends a grand!?
Charlie:
Sir, a hotel room will cost an average of £50 a night. So that's around 20 nights...
Kaylynn:
Is that supposed to cheer us up!?
Daniel:
Is there really nothing more that can be done?
Charlie:
I'm sorry Mr and Mrs Pleasant, but for now it's just a matter of waiting and hoping.

Maria: It's not like you to be up this early.
Liam:
Int it? Well I couldn't sleep with you tossing and turning so much.
Maria:
Liam, ever since I told you you've been this way with me.
Liam:
What way!?
Maria:
Different. Snappy. Mean towards me.
Liam
: What do you expect? I can't just forgive and forget. I'm allowed to feel a bit 'urt you know!
Maria:
I know, but you said you still loved me! You should show that more!

Liam: That was a lovely tea love. Thank you.
Maria:
You're welcome. I've got you some cream cakes too for later.
Liam:
Nice. We could eat them out in the garden. It's a lovely evening.
Maria:
Good idea.
Liam:
Anyone would think you were buttering me up for something.
Maria:
I don't know how to tell you this.
Liam:
Love? Wha' is it? Is everything ok?
Maria:
It's Katy...
Liam:
She's at work int she? Is she alright?
Maria:
Liam just listen! Katy isn't yours!

Liam: Katy isn't mine? What do you mean, Katy isn't mine? Love? (Shouts) What are you talking about!?

Liam: Love?
Maria:
I cheated on you.
Liam:
But..
Maria:
Your not Katy's dad. I cant express how sorry I am.
Liam:
(Sobs) You're sorry!? You're sorry! Not as sorry as I am! Seventeen years I've believed Katy was mine.
Maria:
She is! You're her dad, you always will be. This doesn't change anything.
Liam:
Why now!? Why are you telling me this now!?
Maria:
That's why Kel was here today..

Liam: Kel!? The pretty rich boy.. 'e 'as everything I ain't got!
Maria:
It wasn't like that. It just happened.
Liam:
(Cries) You've lied to me all this time! You're a right bitch, I hope you know that!
Maria:
I do and I'm so sorry Liam. It was a mistake!
Liam:
You're sorry!? You think an apology is enough!? Is Tommy really mine?
Maria:
Of course he is!
Liam:
Are you sure his dad wont show up in a few years time!? What did Kel want anyway?
Maria:
He wants to meet Katy.
Liam:
'e cant.
Maria:
He's one of the best lawyers in the city. He'll make it happen.
Liam:
Then we'll move.
Maria:
What?
Liam:
Do you want Katy to find out?
Maria:
Of course not.
Liam:
Then lets pack up and go. Right now. We'll go to me mothers for a while until we find somewhere else.
Maria:
But.. don't you hate me?

Liam: I do, (sniffs) but I love you too much to let it bother me. I love Katy and I cant let our family fall apart. I love you just as much as when we met back in high school.
Maria:
You dropped your dinner tray on my foot.
Liam:
(Laughs) And you called me a tosser. I remember.
Maria:
I'll never hurt you again Liam. I promise.
Liam:
Pass us the phone, lets phone me mum.
Maria:
Liam, thank you so much. Thank you for keeping me. I don't deserve it.
Liam:
No, you don't.

Liam: Perhaps I've changed my mind.
Maria:
What about?
Liam:
About still loving you. Maybe I was wrong.
Maria:
Liam, I know you're hurt, but please don't say that. I love you so much.
Liam:
Now you know what people mean when they say love 'urts! I found out when you told me Katy wasn't mine!

Liam: Katy!
Katy:
Mum? Is it..?
Maria:
(Nods)

Maria: Katy, wait! It doesn't make any difference!
Liam:
Let her go love. Just give 'er some time.
Maria:
You had to open your big mouth!
Liam:
She 'ad a right to know.
Maria:
You said you didn't want her to know.
Liam:
I changed my mind.

Dirk: Thanks for coming.
Rachael:
Thank you for inviting me boys. How is Peter? I've not heard from him for a couple of days.
Sam:
We think he's depressed.
Rachael:
Hopefully a visit from me will cheer him up.
Dirk:
That's what we were hoping.
Sam:
We can't bare him lying in self pity anymore. Something has to be done.

Darleen: What's going on? What's she doing here?
Dirk:
Don't freak out mum. We invited her.
Sam:
We think it might help cheer dad up.
Darleen
: Ok, go on up Rachael.
Rachael:
What?
Darleen:
Go up. I give in, he wants to see you, for whatever reason, so I'm letting him.
Rachael:
Well.. thank you Darleen.
Darleen:
Just go up before I change my mind.

Maria: Liam?
Liam:
Yeah?
Maria:
I'm going to go out and look for her.
Liam:
She'll come 'ome in 'er own time, when she's good and ready.
Maria:
Aren't you worried?
Liam:
Maria's a big girl. She's sensible. She just needs some time to think.
Maria:
Liam?
Liam:
What?
Maria:
Did you mean it? Do you really not love me anymore?
Liam:
(Sighs) I don't know. I just.. I just feel differently about you. I can't help it.
Maria:
Ok.

Maria: I'm going out for a bit.
Liam:
What for? Don't you go upsetting 'er more if you find 'er.
Maria:
I wont. I'm not going out to look. I just need some time to think too.
Liam:
Rightio. I'll see you in a bit then.

Rachael: It's good to see you. I was so surprised when I got your email out of the blue. You went to the trouble to find me and I was flattered.
Peter:
I just remembered how easy it was to talk to you, and right now I need to talk to someone more ever.
Rachael:
It must be so hard.
Peter:
It is. Not only do I have the guilt of my brothers death, I have to swallow my pride and let other people do everything for me. I'm not like that. I was a successful business man, I need to be doing something for myself.
Rachael:
There's no reason why you couldn't run a business again. You need something to give you a purpose.
Peter:
I do. It's not like I can be a good father to Sam anymore.
Rachel:
Of course you can.
Peter:
He hardly ever comes up and sees me, you know. Somedays I don't see him at all.
Rachael:
I'm sure it doesn't mean anything.
Peter
: He's embarrassed of me. I know it.
Rachael:
Oh Peter, don't be stupid. This isn't your fault.
Peter:
I should of died in that crash. Darren should be here. He was so much stronger than me. He'd cope so much better.

Joe: Leo, thanks for coming.
Leo:
Joe, I'm so sorry about the shipment, but please... I can't leave my boy behind. He needs me.

Joe: (Laughs) Leo, we're old friends. I'm not going to kill you.
Leo:
But I lost you a few million pounds.
Joe:
Leo, in our line of work a few million is nothing. You're going to make up for the lost goods.
Leo:
Joe, I was hoping I could pack it all in. I need to think of my boy. I've got to do something legal. If I went to prison he'd have no one. Or I could end up getting killed...
Joe:
Leo Leo Leo, you should already be a dead man by now, anyone else would be, but no, I'm giving you the chance to fix this. I'll tell you what Leo, one last job and you'll be free to go.
Leo:
Just one more?
Joe:
One that will top all others. The biggest order yet.
Leo:
What will it be? Cocaine? Heroin?
Joe:
People.

Leo: People!?
Joe:
Yes. I can't believe we ain't done it before. I know a guy who wants to pay us five million for each person we can get into the country. We bring in one of these containers packed full of immigrants and we'll never have to work again! I'm ready to pack it all in too Leo, but I need you to pull off this job first.
Leo:
Why's he paying so much?
Joe:
Beats me. Probably a bunch of suicide bombers or something.
Leo:
Then if we get them into our country we'll all be at risk!
Joe:
I don't care, I'll be living on my own island by then.
Leo:
I'm not going to do it Joe.
Joe:
You'll do it, or you won't have to worry about leaving your boy behind anymore.
Leo:
Don't you touch him!
Joe:
Planning starts tomorrow morning at six. I'll see you then.

Leo: Please Joe, we'd go to prison for life!
Joe:
We wont mess it up. It's too big to fail! See you at 6 tomorrow Leo!

Katy: Hi dad.
Liam:
Katy! Where've you been all day? I've been worried.
Katy:
Dad, I know I've said some nasty things before, about not wanting you to be my dad, (cries) but I never meant them.
Liam:
Oh love. Come here.

Liam: I will always be your dad. Maybe not by blood, but by love.
Katy:
Did you know dad? All these years.
Liam:
I've known since about September. Your real dad came sniffing around. That's why we 'ad to move.
Katy:
Oh.
Liam:
I'm so proud of you for being grown up about this.
Katy:
Well, like you said, you're my dad and always will be. You didn't know so it's not your fault either. I'm not sure I'll be able to forgive mum though.
Liam:
No, me neither.

(Car beep)
Leo:
Maria?
Maria:
Leo.
Leo:
You must be freezing! Get in.

Leo: What were you doing out in the cold?
Maria:
(Sobs) I'm looking for Katy. I don't know where she is.
Leo:
Oh no, first Sophie Pleasant and now Katy.
Maria:
Katy ran off. I. upset her.
Leo:
Oh, I'm sure you'll manage to fix it. Let me take you home.
Maria:
No, I don't want to go home right now.
Leo:
Do you want to come back to mine for a bit?
Maria:
Yes please.

Rachael: I'm going to get off now Darleen. Thanks for letting me speak to him.
Darleen:
Don't you want to stay for dinner? I'm sure Peter would like that.
Rachael:
I cant.
Darleen:
What has he said to you?
Rachael:
A lot. He feels useless. He thinks Sam doesn't love him anymore..
Darleen:
Nonsense.
Rachael:
I know, but he's convinced himself. He has way too much time to think about things.
Darleen:
He's needs something to do.
Rachael:
I suggested he should start a business, or get a hobby.
Darleen:
(Sighs) Are you coming back? He talks to you, he doesn't open up to me at all.
Rachel:
Yeah, I'll come back. Is tomorrow ok?
Darleen:
Yeah, sure. Listen, did he mention wanting to kill himself?
Rachael:
He did. He asked me to help him do it... don't worry, I wont.
Darleen:
Good. Is there anything between you two?
Rachael:
I don't know. I think he still loves me.
Darleen:
And you..?
Rachel:
I still care about him a lot. We'll see. See you tomorrow.
Darleen:
Bye.

Maria: Thanks for inviting me back.
Leo:
That's ok. I couldn't leave you out in the cold could I?
Maria:
You're a real gentleman. Nothing like Liam.
Leo:
Yet you must like something about him.
Maria:
I did... the fact he loved me.
Leo:
Loved? Doesn't he still...?
Maria:
(Cries) I think I've ruined things for good.

Leo: I'm sure everything will work out ok.
Maria:
In one way or another. Where's Luke?
Leo:
He's at Herbs and Corals. I need to go and pick him up really.
Maria:
Don't.
Leo:
What?
Maria:
Shhh...

Leo: Mmmm.
