Apocalypse - Episode 5 - Just Us

Previously On Apocalypse…

Matthew: Something tells me the police aren't available right now.

Lewis: I mean...what's happened...
David:
Isn't it obvious? Those reports from around the world were true. The infection has finally landed on our doorstep...

Beth: What does it say?
Katie: “Autumn and we’re still getting warnings from residents in Japan; nothing confirmed.”
Beth: Look at the bottom...they knew about the outbreak?
Katie: (sighs) Looks like it.

David: The helicopter; it's on the roof. I've sent 8 people up there; most were police officers - the helicopter is still there...

Matthew: Look…look at her…
Beth: (gasps) She was my neighbour’s daughter.
Matthew: She’s just…

Katie: Like us?
Matthew: Yeah; just like my parents. I just...I just block everything out...because I don't want to get hurt. I don't want to face the fact that this is real...because if it's similar to a movie...

David:
My mother died; she’s still my mother! She needs to eat just as much as the rest of us.
Katie: Why don’t you stop being such a pansy ass mama’s boy and let us out of these chains!

David: You’ve got too much to say for yourself…how about I start with you…Mother hated those “loud mouth girls”.

Lewis: We’ve got a problem…
Beth: What problem?
Lewis: The creatures have found their way in…
Katie: (gasps) What?

Lewis: They’re making their way towards us as we speak.

Episode 05 – “Just Us”

Katie:
We head for the helicopter?
Beth: How do we know there was one…he could have been lying.
Lewis: I guess we’re going to have to go up aren’t we?
Matthew: What if we get up there and it’s not there though?

Beth: Let’s take a risk.

Lewis: Oh god!
Beth: Hurry!

Katie: Get away!

Lewis: Katie get on the roof.

Beth: Quick, Daniel get inside.

Lewis: Let’s get out of here.

Katie: Are you okay Beth?
Beth: Yeah…I’m fine…

Daniel: Mum read me a story please.
Beth: Oh what would you like me to read?
Daniel: Hmm…tell me about when I was born
Beth: But you’ve heard that story so many times now…
Daniel: But it’s my favorite.

Beth: Okay; you were born in a hospital on the 6th December; when I brought you home our neighbor’s daughter Lizzie pretended that you were hers, she even tried to make you call her mum. I tickled your ears…

Beth: …and watched you sleep. Your dad spent the whole week building up your cot bed; the only thing we could ever agree on…was that…

Beth: …you were a wonderful child.

I used to read stories to Daniel before bedtime. Little boys always like the scary monsters, even though they may scare them to death…they always love the scariest story…

But what happens when those monsters come alive? How do you explain to a child that the world he once thought was fiction…

Was now his reality…

Lewis:
We’re going to have to get some food sooner or later, everyone is hungry…
Beth: I know, I’m thinking now; I think there’s a diner on Walkson Street…
Lewis: Oh god there is me and my mates used to hang out in there before…before…
Beth: I think we should try and look for supplies, those guns won’t hold much…
Lewis: I’m out now; Matthew lost his at the station.
Beth: There must be a gun store around somewhere…do you know any?
Lewis: Not sure, but the diner is quite central so we’ll look there…

Beth: But being so central means that those things are likely to be hanging around.
Lewis: Sorry if this sounds unfair, but I think we should keep Daniel here with either Katie or Matthew.
Beth: Good idea, I don’t want him seeing any more…things…

Lewis: Okay, we’ve got a plan. We’re going to head down to the Walkson street Diner to get something to eat.
Katie: How do we know it’s not…
Lewis: We don’t, we’re taking a risk.
Beth: I’d like one of you two to stay here with Daniel.
Matthew: Well I can’t; I’m not brotherly or…maternal…whatever it’s called.
Katie: Oh you big baby; I’ll stay with Daniel.
Beth: Thanks Katie.

Matthew: Whilst we’re down there we should check into the clothes store as well…
Beth: Good point; I’m fine because I changed before I left Rupert’s, but you guys haven’t changed or showered in days…
Lewis: Yeah…you’re right. I know Katie’s size and what she likes, I’ll get hers.
Beth: I’ll get Daniel’s. Let’s go then…

Daniel: Where is everyone going?
Katie: They’re going to get us something to eat…
Daniel: Oh good, my tummy is rumbling.
Katie: (laughs) Same; so what games do you like to play?
Daniel: Erm…I like lots…
Katie: Well, how would you like to play eye spy?
Daniel: Oh yes, I’m really good at that.

Lewis: I’m surprised we haven’t seen any of the creatures yet…
Beth: I know; unless they’ve been distracted somewhere else?
Lewis: I’m not sure.

Lewis: There’s the Diner…
Beth: Wait, before we go walking in there I want to be sure that there’s nothing there…
Lewis: So what do we do?

Matthew: (shouts) HELLO!!

Beth: Shut up!
Lewis: Sssh! What are you doing?!
Matthew: If there’s anything in there they’ll appear now…

Matthew: Like now…

Lewis: Good idea…
(gunshot)

Beth: Surely that will attract them though?
Lewis: Possibly…
Matthew: Let’s move then…

Katie: Eye spy with my little eye…something beginning with…

Daniel: (yawns)

Katie: Yeah I’m bored of it as well actually. Wait her a moment.

Katie: (gasps)

Lewis: Looks clear to me.
Beth: Yeah, I think they must have been distracted somewhere else.
Matthew: You know…to kill time…

Matthew: What if we split up? One of us gets the food, the other to the clothes store and so on?
Beth: Sounds like a good idea; it could move things a little quicker…
Lewis: Okay, I’ll head to the gun story then.
Beth: Remember we don’t want loads of guns, only stuff we can carry.
Lewis: Okay.
Matthew: What should I do?
Beth: How about you get the food from here? I know Katie’s size so I can get her clothes…
Matthew: Do you know mine?
Beth: What clothes do you want?
Matthew: In this situation; I’ll not be fussy, just get me what you think I’d like.
Beth: Okay.

Lewis: Let’s split up then…

Katie: Daniel please can you just go and play by that tree over there?
Daniel: Are those police men after us again?
Katie: Yes…yes they are. You need to go keep out of the way okay?
Daniel: I’m not afraid…
Katie: I know…but please just do this favor for me…please…
Daniel: Okay then.

Katie: (gasps) I…I just killed someone…Oh my god…Oh my god…

Matthew: (whispers) This won’t work…

Matthew: Anyone here?

Matthew: The walking dead can’t talk Matthew…I must remember that.

Matthew: Oh crap!

Matthew: Phew, I'm getting good at this.

Beth:
I guess this place never got the chance to open…

Beth:
This CCTV should help me out…

Beth: These guys really didn’t get chance to open early…

Beth: Ouch!

Beth: Oh…that’s why it was closed…

Lewis: Let’s test if these bullets actually work.

Matthew: I hope there’s enough in this bag…

Matthew: Oh crap…

Lewis: I hope there's not too many of them out here...

Lewis: Back away slowly Lewis...

Matthew: Why does this always happen to me?

(phone rings)

Matthew: What the hell?

Matthew: Erm…hello?
Lewis: Oh good you’re still alive…
Matthew: You expected any different?

Lewis:
Well….
Matthew: How are you phoning me?
Lewis: Gun shop phone; it’s wired up to all the streets stores in case of emergency…
Matthew: That’s clever…
Lewis: You seen outside?
Matthew: Yeah, what should we do?
Lewis: I’m going to climb onto the roof of the gun shop somehow, you need to get on the roof somehow.

(glass smashes)
Matthew: Okay…I’ll take this phone with me as well…
Lewis: Same.

Beth: Daniel will love these shoes…

(phone rings)
Beth: (gasps)

Beth: Hello?
Lewis: Beth it’s Lewis.
Beth: Jesus you scared the crap outta me.
Lewis: Sorry Beth; look, we’ve drawn a crowd outside.
Beth: You’re kidding right?
Lewis: No, they’ve broken into the café…
Beth: (gasps) Matthew?
Lewis: He’s heading on the roof; I am too.
Beth: This place is all closed up; they’re doing construction or something.
Lewis: There are still clothes though?
Beth: Yeah…
Lewis: Okay, thank god…
Beth: There’s CCTV as well in the back.
Lewis: That’s fantastic; can you see around the building?
Beth: I think there’s one at the front of the store.
Lewis: Okay, go and check it out…
Beth: I will do; I’ll phone you back.

Katie: Look at them…
Daniel: Maybe they’ll wake up later?
Katie: They’re…dead…
Daniel: Mum always told me there was no such thing as death; it’s just…walking into another life…
Katie: I’ll never forgive myself…
Daniel: Why are they blue?
Katie: They’re…they’ve been ill…

Lewis: Come on Matthew…show yourself…

Lewis: Are you secure up there?
Matthew: For now; they’ve broken in though…
Lewis: I can see. Is that the food in the bag?
Matthew: Yeah, there’s just some bread...sandwich stuff.
Lewis: Good; Beth’s got CCTV in the clothes store.
Matthew: That’s good…is it?
Lewis: Yeah, she can check around the building to see if there’s anywhere free.
Matthew: Best give her a call then.
Lewis: Good idea.

Beth: Lewis, I’m looking around the building now…
Lewis: How’s it looking?
Beth: It seems to me the back of all the buildings will be empty…
Lewis: I don’t think the gun store has a back area?
Beth: It does, but it’s small.
Lewis: So do you suggest we all go through the back areas to the end of the road?
Beth: I think it’s the only solution we have right now.
Lewis: There are fences though...
Beth: I know, there's one at the back of here, we need to improvise though, try not to draw attention to yourself.
Lewis: Okay, I’ll ring off to let Matthew know.
Beth: Take care…

Lewis: Climb down the back of the cafe and make your way ahead to the end of the street. Go quietly because we can’t be seen.
Matthew: Okay, I’ll wait for you to head down then I will too.
Lewis: Okay…

Katie: I was so busy blaming Lewis that I hadn’t realized the seriousness of the situation…
Daniel: I know something is happening, I don’t know what though.
Katie: Trust me Daniel, you’re better off that way.
Daniel: Well my mum is the person I love the most…nothing changed…
Katie: I miss my mum…

Daniel: But you have Lewis and I think we should hang on to our family members as much as we can. Because one day we will be too big and won’t need them.
Katie: That’s the most sensible thing anyone’s said to me since…this.

Beth: (gasps)

Lewis: Hey we’re…
Lewis: …back…
Beth: (gasps) What happened?

Daniel: Those men attacked us and Katie saved me.
Beth: Are you two alright?

Lewis: Katie?
Katie: (sighs) I’m fine…

Matthew: Let’s get this food made then; it’s going to be dark soon.

Matthew: Katie do you want a sandwich?
Katie: No…I’m fine…
Matthew: (sighs) I know this is hard…but we’ve got to stay strong, you know?
Katie: Please Matthew…can you just…please….
Matthew: Yeah…sure…

Matthew: She’s not hungry…
Beth: I’m worried about her…
Lewis: Let me talk to her, I think it’s me she needs to see.

Lewis: Hey little sister….
Katie: How’s Daniel?
Lewis: He’s fine, tired, but fine.
Katie: I couldn’t stop myself…once I hit them…I kept going on…and on; a decent person would have stopped themselves.
Lewis: You were protecting yourself…protecting Daniel…
Katie: (sighs) I can convince myself that…but it’s not the truth…
Lewis: What would have happened if you stepped out of the way and let those creatures walk past you?
Katie: I don’t know…they probably would have…attacked me…attacked Daniel…
Lewis: So you were protecting yourself…

Katie: I don’t hate them though; they want to kill us…all of us, but I can’t hate them. They’re people too…they were all just…normal people and now they’re…dead…
Lewis: (sighs) I know Katie…it’s hard…
Katie: I’m not sure what I’m supposed to feel any more. Do I feel happy that I’ve saved myself and Daniel…or do I feel sad…because two people have died…two lifeless bodies are no longer moving because of me.
Lewis: They are already dead though Katie, It’s sad, but all that’s keeping them moving is the sense of killing people…they’re dead…
Katie: You know I read a book in school once; it was a woman describing how she felt after she died. It was fiction obviously; all she spoke about was the need to...let go...to get away from the pain, do you know something? I know what it’s like to want to die…

Katie: ...you punish yourself on the outside…to get the thing that’s on the inside corrupting you...killing you...
Lewis: Jesus Katie…what are you saying?
Katie: I feel like I’ve become one of them…like it’s okay to just kill someone…because they’re already dead…
Lewis: Look…Katie…whatever is inside of you…you need to get it out. Put it away, write it down, but get rid of it so it doesn’t torture you for the rest of your life.
Katie (cries) I’m so sorry Lewis…

Lewis: Hey Katie…come on…what are you sorry for?
Katie: (sobs) I was a bitch…I’ve been a bitch.

Lewis: Do not drop anchor here; we've got to stick together.

Katie: When you don’t want to feel, death can seem like a dream; but seeing death…actually seeing it makes dreaming about it absolutely ridiculous.

Katie: There’s a moment…when growing up…you go through a spell of actually disliking the people that are closest to you. When the problems start…when something serious happens…

Katie: They’re the first ones you want to run to and hug…because they remind you of comfort…of home…they remind you that even though things are tough…they’ll always be there for you…
