The GAME Series 1 - Episode 1

Darren: Hello and welcome to the GAME! I'm Darren, the winner of Sim Brother 2005. I've been hired by SimTV to host this brand new show. It's something completely new to SimTV, and to be honest we don't know how it will turn out. At the end of this six episode trial series, we will be asking you, the viewers, to decide whether the GAME should return! In each episode four contestants will battle against each other in three rounds to try and win a prize fund which could be anything between £10 and £150,000! Lets meet the first ever contestants...

Darren: Contestant one is 61 year old Peter. He's an office worker and has come on the show to try and earn some more money for his retirement.

Darren: Next door in the blue room is 28 year old Val! She's an accountant. She finds the job boring and wants to earn money for a good holiday!

Darren: Katrina is contestant three. She's a nurse and she's also 28. Working as a nurse is tiring and like Val she wants to earn money for a holiday.

Darren: The final contestant is Cliff, a 31 year old disco dancer! Cliff stills lives with his parents and want's to win money to go towards buying his own home.

Darren: It's now time to play our first round! Our first round is called Our survey says... I'll ask a question to the contestants, which we previously asked a poll of 100 people. They'll each give there answer. In there cubicles only we can hear them, and they cannot hear each others answers. If there answers are one of the top four poll answers they will earn between 4 and one point depending on the rank. If there answer isn't in the poll results they will get no points. There's only two questions in this round and one contestant will be eliminated at the end of it. Good luck everyone..

Darren: Ok, the first question was, name something seen at a wedding. Each of you now need to give one answer. Remember, that you won't be able to hear each other. Peter?
Peter:
A church.
Darren:
Good answer. Val?
Val:
The bride and groom.
Darren:
Katrina?
Katrina:
The cake.
Darren:
And lastly, cliff?
Cliff:
Flowers.
Darren:
All different this time. Were now going to find out how they've scored.

Darren: Here are the polls top four answers. Bride, Cake, Confetti and Flowers. Val scores four points for her answer of Bride and Groom. Katrina gets three points for saying cake, and Cliff gets one point for flowers. I'm sorry Peter but church isn't in the top four. Maybe you'll have better luck with the next question.

Darren: The second question was to name a British Army Rank. I think you should more luck with this one Peter.
Peter:
Major.
Darren:
Sounds good to me. Val?
Val:
Private.
Darren:
A low rank, but will it be a low answer? Katrina?
Katrina:
Private.
Darren:
And Cliff last again?
Cliff:
Sergeant.
Darren:
Lets see if there up there!

Darren: And the answers are Major, Sergeant, Corporal and Private. Katrina and Val both score one point each for their answer of Private. Peter's pulled in four points with his answer of Major. Cliff get's three points for Sergeant.

Darren: At the end of that round we have Val in the lead, and Cliff, Peter and Katrina each with four points. One person must be eliminated, so were going to have a tie breaker question. I will ask one more survey question. You must buzz in to answer. If you get the top answer your saved. Fingers on your buzzers... Name a famous Tony.

Peter: (Buzzes) Blair!
Darren:
Well done Peter, that is the top answer and you've saved yourself. Whoever get's any other answer on the list first will go through to the next round.

Cliff: (buzzes) Christie?
Darren:
No, it's not up there. Katrina, you now get to answer..

Darren: Get any of the three remaining answers to save yourself.
Katrina:
I really can't think of any, except Blair.
Darren:
You've got to know at least one.
Katrina:
All I can think of is that Tiger. You know the one on the Frosties box. Tony the tiger.
Darren:
Amazingly Katrina, that is the fourth answer! Your saved.
Katrina:
Yes!
Darren:
The other answers we were looking for were Curtis and Hancock. Cliff, your out of the game.

Cliff: Thanks for letting me play anyway. I've had a good day. I guess I'm living with my parents for a bit longer!
Darren: Thanks for playing. Goodbye Cliff.

Darren: With Cliff sitting in the dark it's now time for the remaining three contestants to play the next round, called Catchphrase. The contestants are shown a clue representing a catchphrase. The first to buzz in with the correct answer gets a point. The points are added to their previous totals, and at the end of this round one more contestant is eliminated. Here's the first catchphrase.

Darren: Buzz as soon as you know!

Katrina: (Buzzes) Is it to be or not to be?
Darren:
Correct! Here's out next catchphrase.

Val: (Buzzes)

Val: Is it overwhelming odds?
Darren:
Of course. Come on Peter, you need to score. Here's our final catchphrase.

Katrina: Yes! (Buzzes)

Katrina: It's crossroads.
Darren:
That's right obviously, and that's the end of that round.

Darren: The points from that round have been added to your totals. Peter, your out of the game, and Katrina and Val will now go to head to head in our final game called Pathway!

Darren: Ladies, how does it feel to get to this stage in the game?
Katrina:
It's exciting. I'm not letting the prize get away from me now!
Val:
Me neither. I'm going to whip your...
Darren:
Ladies, this is a family show! Ok, in this game you must each reach the end of your pathway. At each level you must choose to move to either the red or purple square. The square will either allow you to keep moving, give up your turn, or answer a question correctly in order to move again. Do you understand?
Katrina:
Yes.
Val:
Perfectly.
Darren:
Then lets play! Please choose either square to begin!

Val get's met with an angry red face, meaning she has to wait while Katrina has control of the game.
Darren:
Bad start Val, you have to miss a turn. Katrina, your allowed to continue until you have to give up your go, or answer a question incorrectly.
Katrina:
Ok.

Katrina is met by a question symbol.
Darren:
Ok, you've got to answer a question in order to move forward, but it's still your turn, so here it is: In Chemistry, what chemical is represented by the symbol Ag?
Katrina:
Erm.. Aluminium?
Darren:
No. It's silver. Ok, it's now Val's turn. You have to wait until she gets a miss a turn symbol, or answers a question incorrectly.

Val has progressed forward a number of times, but must now answer a question correctly to keep control of the game.
Darren:
Good choices Val, three continues in a row, but now need to answer this question correctly to prevent the game passing back to Katrina.
Val:
Ok.
Darren:
In chemistry, again, what chemical is represented by the symbol Si?
Val:
Silicon.
Darren:
Well done, you know your science! Choose another square.

After moving forward Katrina sees the dreaded angrey face and loses control of the game.
Darren:
Unlucky, it's back over to Katrina. Come on Katrina, Val's only three away from the end.

Katrina gets several continues in a row and is now just two squares away from winning. She needs to get a question correct to move again.
Darren:
Excellent choices Katrina. Your one square ahead of Val now, but you need to get this question right to prevent Val getting control of the game.
Katrina:
Ok. It isn't Chemistry again is it?
Darren:
No. In Biology..
Katrina: (Sighs)
Darren:
(Laughs) I thought you were a nurse?
Katrina:
I am. It doesn't mean I like it though.
Darren:
In Biology, what is the common term for a Myocardial infarction?
Katrina:
A heart attack.
Darren:
Correct! Come on just two more squares. That means just two correct moves!

Katrina get's a continue and moves forward to become the winner.
Darren:
Katrina, you've done it!
Katrina:
Yes. I knew I would beat her!
Darren:
I'm sorry Val, it's all over for you.
Val:
Oh well. I've had a good time.
Darren:
That's the spirit. Ok Katrina, you've won, but what's your prize? Lets play our prize chooser game to find out!

Darren: Welcome to the prize chooser game Katrina. Around the room we have ten windows...

Darren: Each has a cash value hidden behind. You'll start the game by choosing one window which you want to be your prize. You'll reveal values to find out what you haven't got. You'll be made a offer based on what your prize could be after you open a couple of windows. You can choose to take the offer, or reveal more values.
Katrina:
I understand.

Darren: The Plasma screen displays what values are behind the windows. With the offers, you could end up with anything between £10 and £150,000.
Katrina:
I think I'll go for the £150,000!
Darren:
(Laughs) I would too! But unfortunately, you've got to pick it to win it. Which window are you going to claim as yours?
Katrina:
I'm the first ever winner, so I'll go for number one.
Darren:
Ok. What window would you like to reveal first?
Katrina:
I'll start at the other end with number 10.

Darren: £500. That's pretty low, so a good start! Now which one?
Katrina:
Number 8.
Darren:
Ok..

Darren: Ouch! £50,000.
Katrina:
It's ok, there's three higher values.
Darren:
But losing that will affect your offer.
Katrina:
I never thought of that.
Darren:
Anyway, one more window before you get an offer.
Katrina:
Ok, number seven.

Darren: Oh no. Katrina! It's £150,000.
Katrina:
Darn!
Darren:
It's not all bad. You could still have the £100,000 or £75,000.
Katrina:
Yeah... I suppose.

Darren: Because you lost two of the big ones, your first offer will probably suffer. Yes... it has... it's £6,500. You can either take that money, or open three more windows.
Katrina:
I'm going to continue.
Darren:
Are you sure?
Katrina:
Yes.
Darren:
Then where to next?
Katrina:
Number 2.

Darren: It's a big one, and it's £75,000! I'm so sorry Katrina.
Katrina:
(Sighs). I could still have £100,000.
Darren:
Yeah, we've just got to hope that you've got that now. Ok, where next?
Katrina:
I'll go for number 3.

Darren: It's good news, at last, with £10.
Katrina:
Yes!
Darren:
You won't be going away with the lowest prize on offer.
Katrina:
Good.
Darren:
Which window do you want to open now?
Katrina:
Number 5.

Darren: Oh no, I don't believe it.
Katrina:
Arghh!
Darren:
You could still have £25,000. Let's hear the offer.

Darren: £4,000.
Katrina:
I'm going to take it. I don't want to end up with £100.
Katrina:
Wise move. Lets open the other windows.

Darren: Ok, so the £5,000 was hidden there in number 9, and £1,000 was behind window 6.

Darren: £25,000 was behind number four, so behind your windows was...

Darren: ...£100. So by taking the offer and not playing to the end you've done better than you could of done!

Katrina: I'm happy with £4,000. It's enough for a holiday anyway.
Darren:
Yeah. Are you going with someone special?
Katrina:
I think I'll take my mum. She deserves a break from my younger brothers.
Darren:
I'm sure she'll be thrilled. Have a good time. That's the end of this first episode. Don't forget that you can take part in a weekly quiz after each episode of the GAME. Just go to the interactive page for more details and to take part! Goodnight!
